Cable is an exciting eight-nation training and development project, which is creating a new European training programme for community-based workers. The programme aims to enable local community development and urban or rural mission workers:
to work more effectively with communities
to enhance their role in community based learning
The objectives of the CABLE project are:
to develop a model of training to enable local development workers employed by faith communities and civil society to enhance their role and improve their effectiveness and strengthen their role as informal adult educators
to develop new European learning resources
to provide more direct opportunities for economically, socially and culturally excluded groups
to impact national and European social organisations and faith communities in order to strengthen the profile of local development work
The process is divided in four phases:
using skilled trainers with experience of running international learning programmes for adults to evaluate the training work so far undertaken by the project partners and develop the training model
training trainers from the participating countries in order to develop a wider skilled training team and prepare the basic learning resource manual
testing the course, evaluating the actions, finalising the manual and organising the dissemination processes
testing the course, open to participants from the whole of Europe, evaluation and dissemination
Phase One October 2005 – December 2005 Working with the partners to evaluate the training done so far and develop the curriculum for the training the trainers workshops; To identify the trainers for the workshops; To open the web site.
Phase Two Training the Trainers January – July 2006 Two international workshops for those who are or would like to become active trainers in community work and community based learning The first workshop in Latvia will be for participants from the countries of central and eastern Europe who are involved in the project. The second workshop in Great Britain is intended for participants from the west European participant countries. These workshops will explore the methods and content of training for local development workers and plan the model for a training programme, which can be used in different European contexts. The training model should be usable by local and national trainers and for international training groups. The workshops will identify training teams for Phase Three
Phase Three Testing the Course (i) August 2006 – June 2007 The course will be tested in The Netherlands and the Czech Republic and each course will be for participants from across all the participating countries.
Phase Four Offering the Course (ii) July 2007 – September 2008 The course will be offered to a multinational group of CABLE partner country participants, first in Romania and secondly in Finland. Later the course will be offered to all eleigible countries
